Meet Sensei Maxine Lisot
Instructor at Texas Association of Shotokan Karate in Plano, TX
3rd Dan Black Belt

Maxine Lisot began her martial arts journey at thirteen years old when she wanted to be a ninja, but her mother said no. Maxine then chose karate, a decision that has continued almost twenty years. She earned her black belt in 2008 after passing examination under a panel of Wado International Karatedo Federation instructors, including WIKF founder Tatsuo Suzuki Sensei. She went on to earn her second and third degree black belt rank in Wado before joining the Texas Association of Shokotan Karate in 2018. Her martial arts background also includes exposure to Shito-Ryu, Judo, and Yoshin Ryu Jujitsu.

Maxine is an avid competitor and ranked in the top 100 of her weight category in the World Karate Federation. She competes in both kata and kumite, having earned national titles and international recognition, with her proudest being a bronze medal at the 2015 Pan-American Championships in Toronto, Canada. Despite her accomplishments, she strongly advocates an emphasis on traditional curriculum and self-defense training.

Born in California but raised Texan, she considers Plano her home. She received her B.A. Psychology, Magna Cum Laude, from UT Dallas, and her Masters of Education from Southern Methodist University. She additionally holds a CSCS certification under the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and uses her knowledge of education and body mechanics to provide concise (and fun!) instruction to students of all ages. She is also a certified secondary science educator with multiple years of teaching experience, has previously taught physical education courses at the Collin College Preston Ridge campus, and currently substitute teaches in Plano ISD.
